These small necklaces are inspired by the youth, their lively energy and fun manner. Traitionally made for younger women as Okamas have a heirarchy; the larger the Okama the more mature the woman who wears it, the more wisdom and reponsibilities she caries.
Traditionally this Okama also represents women's breasts in its shape, honoring all mothers, grandmothers and care takers, as the breast is a symbol of nourishment.
We care for the traditional meaning of all Okamas and Okama Vida's meanings can be interpreted as a metaphor, as the indgienous artisans wish to share this design with everyone no matter age or maturity.
All of our jewelry designs are hand-made by Alicia and her daughters part of the Embera-Chami ethnic cultural group of Risaralda, Colombia. July, one of Alicia's dauhter participated in the photography of this beautiful project.

I absolutely adore my Okama vida. I've gotten quite a few compliments on it as well.
The beading is very well done and the colors are just as pictured.
I bought mine in winter and like to wear it over a turtleneck when it's cold.
Its very comfortable to wear too. The slight weight feels sort of like a hug? it's hard to describe, but very nice.
So to summerise, 10/10 adore this necklace.
