BAGABAGA significa mariposa en el Ebera/bedea lengua hablada por el pueblo indígena EMbera-Chami de Colombia.
BAGABAGA Mariposas
BAGABAGA means Butterfly.
Large Butterly earrings, hand-woven by the indingeous women we work with in Colombia.
The technique applied to these butterflies is traditional, however the shape, color and use of the butterflies is of a contemporary one. Bagabagas are an example of the young indigenous peoples exploring between traditional weavings in contemporary designs. Makes these butterflies very meaningful to the evolution of traditional practices in a contemporary world.
Butterflies are woven with thread and seed beads.
Inspired and deisgned after the REAL butterflies species like the Morpho (teal/turquoise, black and gold), Purple Emperor (purple), Monarchs (Orange, black and white) and White Peacock ( Cream, Purple and gold accents)

I could just go on an on about how beautifully these are made. The different shades and types of beads..! uhg, they're so nice!
They are also very big. I underestimated the size, but they really are 'life size' butterflies. Because I have a small face, wearing both butterflies is a bit overpowering. I like to combine one Bagabaga with a Tugtu in the other ear, and this balances it out quite nicely.
Absolutely breath taking. Feel incredible on. I purchased the Monarch variety and they sparkle almost in the sun on the golden beads. I couldn't be happier they are beautiful pieces of art.
